Peace Education

The French Program at Moussi Montessori, Squamish BCDr. Maria Montessori was committed to a philosophy of peaceful education, where children are engaged in a safe, respectful environment that does not demand competition between them.

The Montessori method exemplifies this philosophy by teaching children positive means of conflict resolution, and allowing them to learn without being compared to each other or judged with standardized grades. With this method, children can grow and develop in a setting free of judgement, disapproval, and bullying.

Dr. Montessori believed passionately that peace in our world begins with establishing a peaceful place for our children at their most vulnerable stage of life.

At Moussi Montessori we use grace and courtesy lessons to model benevolent social behaviour.  We sing, read stories and poems, and encourage children to write about human virtues.  Morals and values are not left to the parents alone to share with the children.  We believe it is a community effort to acknowledge and encourage the virtues in children that Dr. Montessori termed a ‘hope and promise for mankind’.

“When the children had completed an absorbing bit of work, they appeared rested and deeply pleased. It almost seemed as if a road had opened up within their souls that led to all their latent powers, revealing the better part of themselves. They exhibited a great affability to everyone, put themselves out to help others and seemed full of good will.”
